this video is to go over the bare
minimum of tools you'll need to own a
mountain bike I really mean it when I
say bare minimum obviously we could talk
about spoke ranges cassette removers and
a variety of other specialty bike tools
but today we're only interested in what
you need just to own a mountain bike so
here's your answer a floor pump some
tire levers and a multi-tool sure you'll
need to go to your local bike shop for
most repairs but to change a flat top
off your air pressure or make
adjustments you should be good to go
let's review each tool I think the floor
pump comes in first because well because
hand pumps that's why you'll use
this at least once per week and more if
you get flats get a floor pump and thank
me later
pretty much all modern mountain bikes
have quick release skewers so the only
tool you're going to need to change a
flat is a tire lever and a new tube of
course please don't use a screwdriver
this is set spike hacks but even I don't
condone up your rim over $5 set
of tire levers finally we have our
multi-tool multi tools come in a variety
of shapes and sizes but most of them
will have all the allen keys that you
need plus a few extras like screwdrivers
to adjust your bars change your saddle
height or tight and obviously loose
bolts this will do just fine
obviously we left out a lot of tools but
as I stated earlier we're talking about
the bare minimum you'll need let's talk
about a few tools you may want to invest
in even if you don't plan on doing your
own bike repairs firstly a pedal wrench
would be a good investment sure many
pedals these days are fastened on with
the hex but if you have a pedal like
this one you'll be damned trying to use
a crescent wrench to get it off you'll
scratch the out of your crank arm
trying though plus pedal wrenches double
is a fifteen millimeter for bolt on
wheels like this one if you're changing
between flats and clips investing 15
dollars on a pedal wrench will save you
a lot of hassle plus give you some added
bonuses lastly and some of you may
disagree but I think a suspension pump
is a must-have for any mountain biker
with suspension forks or rear shocks
yeah this is the epitome of a specialty
tool but it's very simple to use and can
save you some headaches I like to run my
shock softer on the trails and harder on
the street so I'd be lost without this
so that's pretty
much it if you just got a shiny new
mountain bike I hope you left the shop
with at least the floor pump you can get
any of these items at your local bike
